Advocacy

Any JUNIOR or SENIOR who is interested in meeting with state lawmakers in Sacramento to express your concerns and ideas regarding public education should consider applying to represent Woodbridge High School on the annual High School Advocacy trip to Sacramento. Selected Woodbridge High students will accompany other high school students in the district.  There are 5 MANDATORY meetings prior to the trip. All expenses are paid for by Woodbridge High PTSA. You must be a PTSA member to attend. The next trip information will be posted here pending CoVid-19 progress.

Student Board Membership

Did you know that students can serve on the California State PTA Board of Managers? As full voting members who serve alongside adult volunteers, they are able to share their unique perspectives on current issues, voice their concerns, and provide important insights during meetings. Service as a board member provides students with a valuable opportunity to develop leadership skills within the framework and organizational structure of the California State PTA. For a complete list of duties and responsibilities, click here.

Who is eligible? Student board members must be high school juniors or seniors in the 2020-2021 school year. Those selected will serve on the California State PTA Board of Managers from July 1, 2020, through June 30, 2021.

How can students apply? The online application can be found here. The deadline is March 15, which may sound like a long way off, but all applicants must submit recommendations and will be interviewed, so they should start the process as soon as possible!

Information

Each month, the Fourth District PTA Advocacy Team produces a publication called Advocacy Communicator. The purpose is to provide you with current advocacy information including issues affecting education on both the state and local levels, as well as information about PTA. It also contains announcements about upcoming speakers and events that are pertinent to children and education.

To access the latest issue as well as prior issues please click here: http://www.fourthdistrictpta.org/# and select the advocacy tab to find our more about these current events and issues affecting education.

Our goal is to empower you, as a PTSA member to become an advocate for our students.
