Advocacy

Sacramento Advocacy Program
On March 16, 2022, the WHS PTSA will send 4-5 WHS students to Sacramento. The Advocacy Trip is an educational experience to travel to the state capitol along with other Irvine high school peers to advocate on behalf of education.  This year there will be 31 students representing Irvine Unified PTA Council. The application process is open to both Junior and Senior students.

In addition to day trip to Sacramento on March 16, there are 5-6 evening trainings that are required as this prepare you for the issues.

On Wednesday, February 9, WHS PTSA hosted over 25 Irvine area high school students. All were accepted to be advocates for the annual IUCPTA Sacramento Student Advocacy trip.  Woodbridge High School is proud to be represented by the following students:

Ezra Han

Heather Hershfield

Toni John

Ashna Parekh

Zoey Sun

Ms. Le Vi will serve as the staff member and chaperone to the advocacy program. This year’s advocacy trip will be in person on March 16th.  The advocacy program teaches leadership skills to our students to promote their academic and social issues.  They will gain exposure to their student peers, IUSD administrators, and IUSD board members and of course state lawmakers in Sacramento.  We are proud of these 5 students representing Woodbridge.  If you have any questions, please email Jill Shea, advocacy@woodbridgeptsa.org.

Student Board Membership

Did you know that students can serve on the California State PTA Board of Managers? As full voting members who serve alongside adult volunteers, they are able to share their unique perspectives on current issues, voice their concerns, and provide important insights during meetings. Service as a board member provides students with a valuable opportunity to develop leadership skills within the framework and organizational structure of the California State PTA. For a complete list of duties and responsibilities, click here.

Who is eligible? Student board members must be high school juniors or seniors in the 2020-2021 school year. Those selected will serve on the California State PTA Board of Managers from July 1, 2020, through June 30, 2021.

How can students apply? The online application can be found here. The deadline is March 15, which may sound like a long way off, but all applicants must submit recommendations and will be interviewed, so they should start the process as soon as possible!
